Staff Wellbeing and our People Strategy

Canterbury DHB is committed to putting people at the heart of all we do through our People Strategy – Care Starts Here. Only through Valuing Everyone, Being and Staying Well and Doing the Right Thing can we continue to provide the best possible care for our community

Staff Wellbeing Research

Since the Canterbury earthquake sequence in 2010-2011, the Canterbury District Health Board [CDHB] has undertaken three employee wellbeing surveys – in 2012, 2014 and 2016.

The results of the 2016 Staff Wellbeing Survey, in which over 4,042 employees [42% of all staff] participated, identified some key themes which the CDHB wanted to explore in greater depth through focus groups. To do so, CDHB partnered with Resilient Organisations Limited to run a series of focus groups exploring the complex nature of staff wellbeing.

This report represents an analysis of the 2016 Staff Wellbeing Survey, focus groups and interviews and other important data available from within the CDHB.

People at the heart of all we do - Our Policy Framework

At the heart of the Canterbury and West Coast health systems are people -people who take care of other people. So we want to have a conversation about how we continue to put people at the heart of all we do. We're committed to engaging our people, our union partners and other stakeholders in this really important conversation.
