Foundation Course in Emergency Nursing


​The aim of the course is to provide a co-ordinated and comprehensive education programme for staff new to the discipline of Emergency Nursing. This course is aimed at "Growing Emergency Nurses" and is applicable for registered nurses wishing to develop clinical skills and knowledge in the assessment, care and management of the acutely ill and injured patient presenting to the Emergency Department,  Each course is comprised of 4 modules (each consisting of 3 study days):

  • Module 1: Cardio-Respiratory emergencies
  • Module 2: Medical and Surgical emergencies
  • Module 3: Paediatric emergencies and professional issues
  • Module 4: Trauma, Wound and Burns Management

The course involves both academic and clinical assessment.  Further information can be obtained from the Nurse Educators.  This course will run from February 5th 2015 until November 23 2015.  It is recommended that you complete the entire course.  Individual modules to meet specific learning goals may be completed depending on circumstances. Please contact ED Nurse Educator for further information.

Target Audience​RN new to Emergency Nursing
Pre-requisite​Currently working in Emergency Nursing and completed an Emergency Nursing orientation.  Pre reading booklets attached to each module.  To confirm place ED Nurse Manager approval required.
