Isolation

​The following patients are regarded as infective risks, and require isolation:

​Infection or colonisation with

  • Methicillan Resistant Staph. Aureus
  • Vancomycin Resistant Entercoccus
  • Multi-resistant gram negative organisms
  • Proven / suspected meningococcal disease until 24 hours of completed antibiotic treatment
  • Burns patients
  • Febrile neutropaenic patients
  • High risk immunosuppressed patients

 
Gowns and glove must be used for each person entering the cubicle (including visitors), and disposed of within the cubicle / room before leaving.  Attending nurses may use one gown per shift, provided it remains within the cubicle / room.

Once the patient has been transferred or discharged, the area should remain vacant until appropriately cleaned in accordance with policy.
