Registrars

There are two levels of Intensive Care Registrars in the unit.

Intensive Care Advanced Trainee Registrars (12 month positions)

Advanced trainee registrars, rostered according to seniority and experience.

Intensive Care Senior Registrar

A College of Intensive Care (CICM) advanced trainee registrar or equivalent – reporting to the SMO's.
Responsibilities:

  • Providing a link between SMO's and Registrars
  • Coordination of care for all patients in one of the ICU "pods" (North or South)
  • To support and supervise the basic trainee Registrars
  • Facilitate advanced trainee protfolio activities

Portfolios:

The following portfolios will be allocated to the senior advanced trainees following orientation:

  • Continuing Medical Education and maintenance of professional standards (MPOS)
  • Intensive Care Database
  • Library / Journals
  • Mortality and Morbidity
  • Research and Quality projects
  • Registrar tutorials and TI teaching

 

Intensive Care BasicTrainee Registrars (6-12 month positions)

  • 7-9 Intensive Care basic trainee registrars.( Seconded from other disciplines to gain experience in Intensive Care Medicine)
  • 3 Emergency Medicine Registrars (6 months)
  • 3 - 4 Anaesthesia registrars (6 months)
  • 0-2 Surgical registrars (6 months)
  • 0-2 Physician registrars (6 months)

 
Practice will be determined by trainee experience in Intensive Care Medicine

Responsibilites:

  • Review and resuscitation of all new referrals
  • Intra and inter-hospital (according to experience)
  • Coordination of treatment to critically ill patients under SR or SMO supervision

Registrar Assessment and Feedback

 
All registrars will receive initial assessment, feedback and discussion regarding goals for the rotation within the first two months.  

Those trainees completinga 6 month rotation will recieve an interim assessment and feedback at four months, and a final assessment and feedback at the end of the rotation.

Those trainees completing a 12 month rotation will receive an interim assessment and feedback at six months and a final assessment and feedback at the end of the rotation.

Registrar Car Parking

Long Day Registrars:  there are 2-3 dedicated parks in St Asaph St by the new sub station.

Emergency:  use the drive and drop system, hand your keys to reception or security.

Evenings & Weekends:  There is a free multi storey car park.  Evenings from 15:45pm
