The National Travel Assistance scheme may be able to assist CDHB registered patients who are required to travel outside of Canterbury for treatment

Rural travel options

St John Health Shuttle Service

St John runs two rural shuttles which are manned by volunteer staff. St John do not charge a fee for this service, however they do accept donations to help cover costs.

Ashburton Shuttle​​

Ashburton and Rakaia to Christchurch 

Departs Ashburton: 9.00am Monday to Friday

Pick up point: McKenzie Centre, cnr Mona Square and Kermode Street, Ashburton

Departs Rakaia: 9.20am Monday to Friday
Pick up point: Rakaia Four Square, Railway Terrace, Rakaia

Arrives Christchurch: 10.30am

Christchurch to Rakaia and Ashburton

Departs Christchurch: Times may vary but no later than 3.00pm

Arrives Rakaia: Approx 4.10pm (dependant on departure time from Christchurch)
Drop off point: Rakaia Four Square, Railway Terrace, Rakaia

Arrives Ashburton: Approx 4.30pm (dependant on departure time from Christchurch)
Drop off point: McKenzie Centre, cnr Mona Square and Kermode Street, Ashburton

North Canterbury Health Shuttle Service

Service operates Monday to Friday

Pick-up/drop-off points:

  • Amberley

  • Rangiora

  • Woodend

  • Kaiapoi

  • Belfast

Medical appointments need to be made after 10.00am and be completed by 3.00pm
