What We Do
Canterbury District Health Board (Canterbury DHB) is proposing to dispose of 412m2 of its land at Maddisons Road, Templeton, to the Christchurch City Council (Council) pursuant to the Public Works Act. The Canterbury DHB land contains an existing Council pump station.
The final decision on whether disposal is approved will be made by the Minister of Health, based on the merits of the proposal and subsequent input from members of the public. Canterbury DHB is therefore asking for submissions from its resident population on the proposed seeking disposal of this land.

Canterbury DHB proposes selling 1604m2 of its land at Hillmorton Hospital fronting Lincoln Road, Christchurch, to the Christchurch City Council to accommodate the future development of Lincoln Road.
This land is designated for road and will be acquired by Council under the Public Works Act. You can read about the proposal in the booklet provided below.

Canterbury DHB proposes selling its property at 16 Amuri Avenue, Hanmer Springs. This property was originally used for staff accommodation for the former Queen Mary Hospital. It is now surplus to requirements. You can read about the proposal in the booklet provided below.

Canterbury District Health Board put forward a proposal sell 599m2 of land at 278 Antigua Street to the Canterbury Earthquake Recovery Authority, to enable the completion of the development of the Health Research Education Facility on that site.

Update, December 2017
The original proposal to sell part of the site of the former Akaroa Hospital (now demolished) was abandoned once the associated proposal from a third party (Ngai Tahu) to develop an Integrated Family Health Centre was withdrawn. The site will now be retained in Canterbury DHB ownership for the development of a new facility.
A temporary GP facility currently operates on the site from a temporary skyline garage and portacom set up.
Following the demolition of the old Akaroa Hospital due to earthquake damage, a new 780m2 facility has been co-designed with the Akaroa community and health providers to meet the current and future needs of the community. It will be jointly funded by Canterbury DHB and the local community through the Akaroa Community Trust.
Rather than being a 'like for like' rebuild of the old hospital, this new facility will incorporate a range of services such as a general practice surgery, physiotherapy, urgent care beds, and an eight bed aged care facility. It will be built on the old hospital site as a single storey NZS 3604 timber construction, with some steel works to large span areas and concrete slab and foundations.
