Facilities Development Project

Update on CDHB development projects

Acute Services Building

With just the entrance to complete, all 6,000 tonnes of structural steel are now in place for the Acute Services Building.

About 270 workers are on site.

Ongoing work includes:

  • painters have now reached Level 7 of the West Tower
  • installation of glass windows and louvre panels
  • insulation going in on the undersides of Level 2 and Level 3 of the West Tower
  • Timber framing continues up to Level 4

The first sheets of the metal roof start getting put in place soon.

See the Christchurch Hospital page for more details.

Christchurch Outpatients

The Christchurch Outpatients site is waiting for the arrival of the steel columns for the frame of the building. There are still ongoing foundation concrete pours.

A 21m tower crane has been installed to do the heavy lifting. As with the cranes on the ASB site this tower crane will “weathervane” – align with the wind direction – when not in use. Although the boom of the crane will swing over adjoining roads and part of the hospital site, the loads it lifts are computer-controlled to stay within the boundary of the construction site.

Walking in the Hospital Corner area - please be safe out there!

With the Christchurch Outpatients, Health Research Education Facility, Fletchers Earthquake repairs and Archibalds' Corner site under construction, the area around Hospital Corner is VERY busy, increasingly with heavy trucks.

Please take care and follow the appropriate safety and road signs.

There is a container walkway running up Antigua St to the Oxford Tce crossing for pedestrians and a dedicated cycle lane for cyclists travelling up Antigua St to the Boatshed bridge.

See the Christchurch Outpatients page for more details.

Please bear with us!

Over the next few years there will be changes and disruption on CDHB sites that we will try to keep this to a minimum. It will be worth it however, because by 2019 Cantabrians will be enjoying state-of-the-art amenities in our new Acute Services building at Christchurch Hospital and the Christchurch Outpatients facility.

If you have any queries email itsallhappening@cdhb.health.nz and one of the project team will get back to you.
