Here’s how to get free dentist visits

All kids and teenagers in New Zealand can get free dental care up until their 18th birthday. The Ministry of Health has some info on how to enrol your child and what care they are eligible for.

Some treatments such as braces and orthodontics are not covered by publicly-funded dental care.

Free services include:

  • Regular check-ups
  • X-rays to find tooth decay, holes, and other problems that can’t be seen
  • Fluoride treatment
  • Fissure sealants to protect vulnerable teeth from tooth decay
  • Cleaning off plaque, stains and tartar
  • Fillings
  • Removing badly decayed teeth
