All kids in New Zealand get free dental care up until their 18th birthday. Adults can also be eligible for funded dental care depending on their circumstances.
You should enrol your child for free dental care as early as possible to arrange the first check.
Primary school children usually get free dental care through community dental services that visit schools. Secondary school children will usually have to visit a private dentist who provides free care with funding from Canterbury DHB,
The Ministry of Health has some info on how to enrol your child or get funded treatment for adults.
