When people take high doses of opioids, it can lead to an overdose, with the slowing or stopping of breathing and sometimes death. Opioid (oxycodone, morphine, codeine, fentanyl, tramadol, and heroin) overdoses account for around 50% of all drug related deaths in New Zealand each year.
