A prerequisite for anyone wishing to become an assessor is that they must already have successfully completed their portfolio at proficient or expert/ accomplished level. The only exemption from this would be nurses in senior nursing positions such as NE's or CNS's. These nurses should be currently working on their portfolios demonstrating their competency to NCNZ using the competency indicators for nurses involved in management, education, research and policy. These are found within the RN Competent Senior Nursing guidelines.
To complete a minimum of 8 portfolios per year.
To ensure confidentiality is maintained throughout and after completion of assessment process and that portfolios are kept in a secure and private area during the assessment process.
To promote and enhance the PDRP and its processes.
To develop and maintain current knowledge of relevant issues, trends and practices relating to the PDRP.
To attend PDRP assessor meetings and updates.
To complete the Open Polytechnic 4098 Workplace Assessor course.
To attain and maintain minimum Proficient level on PDRP for Registered and Enrolled Nurses. Senior Nursing assessors (eg. CNE) will attain and maintain Competent level reflecting the competencies required for nurses involved in management, education, policy and research as well as meeting the requirements of position description.
Registered Nurses, Enrolled Nurses and Midwives recognised for their knowledge, expertise and sound clinical knowledge base.
Commitment to the PDRP.
Respect and credibility from their peers/colleagues.
Commitment to their own education and professional development.
A nomination form (find below) is completed by a colleague or peer. Nominee agrees with the nomination and completes their portion. Nursing/ Midwifery Line Manager/Professional Advisor signs the nomination form and agrees to facilitating the assessors release as required.
PDRP Coordinator completes a reference check for qualities of confidentiality, professional development and service support for time spent assessing.
Nominations are reviewed by Nurse Manager - Nursing Workforce Development.
Assessors are expected to attend one update day a year.
